Polar

Two men in a deserted place. They are struggling to stay alive under extreme circumstances. A piece of intense drama spiced with cunning humour

In the summer of 1893 the polar ship Fram sailed from quay in Christiania (former Oslo). The boat was to be frozen in by the ice, for then to winter there and be pulled by the constantly moving ice towards the polar points. After nearly two years in the pack ice, the two men leave the board. With two sledges, draught-dogs and skies on their feet, they headed for the polar point. After 24 days on the pack ice, towards the north, they were forced to turn. They headed south, on skies over the polar ocean, towards Norway. The 24th of July 1895 they see land. It is Franz Josefs Land. There they winter in a mud cave. The 13th of august 1896 they reach Vardø. They were welcomed as heroes. The heroes were Fridtjof Nansen (1861-1930), the definite leader of polar exploring and Hjalmar Johansen (1867-1913), the youngest participant of the expedition.

The theatre performance POLAR is inspired by Nansen and Johansens wintering on Franz Josefs Land. For nine moths they shared the same sleeping bag waiting for the summer and daylight. POLAR is a show that puts focus on one part of the Norwegian history using our time's language and effects.

Prince Hamlet

PRINCE HAMLET is a 50 minutes long version of Shakespeare's drama. One actor and an indian ta`bla together on stage. The show was the opening performance of the studio theatre at Drammen Theatre. In our show we have linked this timeless play, one of the most performed in the world, with the contrasts influencing our time. There is a particular emphasis on the challenges young people are facing; perhaps Hamlet isn't just an angry, revengeful young man torn with doubt, but also a vulnerable soul poisoned by his own time. The show is dwelling on the choices Hamlet is forced to make and focusing on the seven monologues in the play. Prince Hamlet was played on a bare, black stage, with the set of just one drawn line dividing the room in two.; the world was about to fall apart… The show opens with Hamlet naked on stage, covered by a sheet full of blood, asking himself and the audience the question: "What is a man?...""

On the ball

The show is about growing up in a football-environment, how to find your own identity amongst a swarm of rules, hormones and expectations. It tells the story of three boys and their struggle to be the best player, to get a place on the local team and become a professional player for Leeds. The idol is Peter Lorimer because he was the toughest goal scorer in the world, he shot the hardest balls ever. We meet the boys at practice and when they are playing matches, in the changing room and in their time off. There is rough language and a great deal of vulnerability. This is the boys` world. A world of good and bad. The former football player Rune Temte wrote the play.

Two living and one dead

Two living and one dead is focusing on the meetings of the individuals and their fate. And as always in the writing of Sigurd Christiansen the people see each other "soul to soul". The main character Bergers` inner journey is about having fate in himself. About values. About guild, punishment and serving time in the prison of yourself. The drama in the book becomes universal. Two living and one dead is in other words as topical now as it was then. Two living and one dead on stage is fulfilling our wish to put the work of Sigurd Christiansen back in the spot light.

Slaves of Love

Slaves of Love is three monologues for two actors and a violin. Tree short stories by Knut Hamsun became theatre in Old Frogner Prison in Oslo. We meet the man with a particular relationship to a fly. We meet the woman who loves the admirer of the yellow lady. We meet the gentleman who experiences appalling things behind the closed doors of the young widow. The subject is the mysterious ways of love and passion. Hamsun draws his characters with linguistic precision. We encounter them in their longing and vulnerability: as slaves of love. The show played for full houses and got very good reviews. Old Frogner Prison was from 1895 to 1962 used as a prison for Frogner Police station and is today a private home..
